The Maldive Islands.
Monograph on the History, Archaeology, and Epigraphy. Colombo Ceylon Government Press 1940
Folio, pp.vii, 204, 80 plates, 7 folding, folding map and table. A very good copy in rather dust soiled original cloth-backed boards.
A monumental work produced by a former Archaeological Commissioner of Ceylon who visited the islands in 1922 when he was over 70 years old. The monograph aimed to throw light on the Maldivian and Arabic inscriptions, the Lomafanu or Copper Plate Grants, and Paper Grants, and to investigate the pre-existence of Buddhism in the Maldive group.
