Slight soiling to title. Some spotting to and offsetting of plates. Later portrait of the author tipped in to reverse of title.
The frontispiece is a portrait of Munshi Ibrahim, the Malay scribe who wrote most of Raffles' Jawi letters to the Rulers of the States of the archipelago. An appendix by Ibrahim describes his visit to Calcutta where he stayed with John Leyden and met Lord Minto.
