First volume shaken in its binding. With the book plates of both Lt. Colonel Dalzell Hunter, Residency Surgeon at Kathmandu, and Kaiser Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, and with two letters from the latter to Mrs Hunter loosely inserted, the first presenting this book.

The first volume is essentially a history of Nepal; the second, a description of the country at the time of writing. Twenty-five appendices cover regalia, decorations, the Arsenal Museum, Pillar inscriptions, Buddhism in Nepal, architecture, coinage, treaties, and a list of Europeans who have visited the country between 1881 and 1925.
