[1970's - 80's]
Polychrome gouache with narrow white border, on paper laid on to card. Original design for poster, 60 x 43.5 cm. Worn with paper loss on the edges and corners, not substantially affecting image. Signed in the image by the artist, V.A. Chandran. Holograph annotations in Tamil on verso.
Durga, or her Chamundi aspect, is presented as a four armed garlanded figure standing in a golden arch on her buffalo mount. She carries a trident, a chakra and possibly a conch. One pair of hands is forming the mudra Abhaya. Numerous oil lamps, bowls of lotus flowers, fruit and other offerings are at her feet. The vignette depicts garlanded rocks and a cobra.
